LEVEL-CROSSING FATALITY.

TWO BROTHERS KILLED,

Maslcrton, February 8.

A distressing level crossing accident occurred at the Kent Street crossing, Carterton, at 7.30 tonight, resulting in the death of Jacob and John Rzoska, two middleaged brothers, who were farming in partnership at Parkvale. The two men had spent the afternoon in Carterton, and after dining in tho local hotel left in a gig for their home. Tho light was failing, but it was still possible to see a fair distance.

It is stated by an eye-witness that the train whistled as it approached the crossing, but was apparently unheard by the brothers, who drove to the middle of the track, where they were struck by the engine. Both were carried some distance and were mangled beyond recognition. It is believed that their vehicle was unlighted.

Deceased have relatives in Masterton, and it is understood that Jacob Rzoska is married and that his wife and two children reside in the South Island.
