DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL
COMMITTEE MEETING.
The monthly meeting of the above was held last night, presided over by Mr. Perreau (chairman). There were also present: Rev|. W l . H. Walton (secretary), Messrs Hornblow, Stevenson, Jno. Ross, Cowley, F. Woods, Roore and the head inaster (Mr. Mason). An apology for absence was received from Mr. Barron. HIGH SCHOOL. The headmaster reported that the secondary classes had been commenced with an attendance of 3G pupils, and everything pointed ments were temporary until the average attendance was definitely ascertained. The furniture had come to hand and the pupils were comfortably situated in the Presbyterian and Anglican school rooms. Extra conveniences would be required at the Anglican school. lie suggested that an official opening take place and parents and public invited to attend. It was resolved to write to the Board and request toilet eonvenieiicies at the Anglican school, and that the janitor receive extra allowance for attendance at the temporary class rooms. It was decided to extend an invitation to Borough Council and public to attend an official opening of the High School at All Saints’ schoolroom at 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday. Correspondence was read from the Board re appointments to the High School. It was resolved to send letters of congratulation to ex-pupils who had been successful in the recent examinations. RESIGNATION. Miss Dent forwarded her resignation as a member of the teaching staff, having accepted an appointment to the Mastertou School. — Decided to place on record the faithful services of Miss Dent and to write her accordingly. SCHOOL PICNIC. It was decided to hold the annual school picnic on the AshhurstDomain on Wednesday, 24th, inst. A sub-committee consisting of the secretary, Messrs. Woods, Cowley, Roore, and the headmaster, were appointed to carry out details , 'SCHOOL CONCERT. A statement in reference to the financial result of the school concert was submitted, showing that £23 had been netted, which with £2 15/- received from Mr. Foston’s lecture would entitle the committee to obtain a subsidy on £25 15s Od. The efforts of the headmaster and staff were suitably acknowledged. GENERAL. A sub-committee was set up to iuspeet the work recently done at the tennis courts with power to act. The purchase of sanitary paper towels, for school use was left in the hands of the chairman and headmaster. Accounts were passed for payment. DENTAL CLINIC. It was decided to immediately circularise parents in connection with the school dental clinic and to make application for the necessary equipment^
