As our representative was pas* sing through the Manawatu Gorge yesterday in company with Mr. S. Jickell, Gorge engineer, and when passing over a culvert, Mr. Jickell stated that beneath the culvert is what is known as the “swaggers’ rest.” Mr. Jickell explained that it was used by benighted foot travellers and provided dry and comfortable shelter. “It is surprising,” added Mr Jickell, “how such people locate such snug retreats.”
