A MYSTERIOUS DEATH.
FATAL INJECTION
A man named Maurice Patrick Malone, of Frasertown, who, with his wife, was on a visit to Hastings, died there, at Royston Hospital, at 5.30 a.m. on Saturday in peculiar eireumstanes. The late Mr Malone was suffering from a common complaint, and upon the advice of a Wairoa doctor, went to a Hastings chemist and bought a prescribed ointment, which was to be applied externally and another preparation of narcotic properties to be injected. The instrument for injecting was bought in Napier. The ointment was used externally on Friday afternoon, and the first injection took place at 10 p.m. on the same day. At about 11.45 p.m. Mrs Malone heard her husband breathing very heavily and making strange noises. A doctor was called in, and on Ids instructions the deceased was hurriedly taken to Royston. An inquest was held on Saturday afternoon, but after formal evidence was heard, it was adjourned until further particulars had been gathered.
