SHOCKING FATALITY AT RUSSELL
YOUTH HEAD, COMPANION CRAW.LS TO SAFETY. Auckland, Last Night. News hay been received of a shocking accident at Deep-Water Cove, Russell, on Saturday evening. f . Erie Brownlee, aged 18, of Northcole, and Frank Clow, of: Russell were returning from a scramble oyer the Peninsula and were resting on the summit of the cliffs one hundred feet high, when the branch ot the tree against which they were reclining, gave way, precipitating both on 1 1* a rocky jedge, sixty feet down. Brownlee received injuries from which he died. His companion was rendered unconscious and remained near the foot of- Ihe cliff all night. He crawled next morning a mile and a quarter back to DeepWater Cove.
A somewhat similar accident occurred at Deep Creek to-day, Jack Edwards, aged seventeen, of Takapuna, falling forty feet over a cliff and sustaining a compound fracture of the skull.
