(To the Editor)

Sir. —I notice that the Manawatu County Council provide good roads, besides providing other facilities at the Tangimoana seaside, yet do little or nothing for the Eoxton seaside. The main road to the Beach instead of following the old roadway, which was almost a straight line, a continuation of the Lady’s Mile, led to the old pilot’s residence in the Sanatorium. You can see, sir, the road line on the countymap. If the road had been made on this line the present road access trouble would be avoided and considerable expense saved to those responsible for the loan, as onethird of the road construction and maintenance would have been avoided and awkward bends cut out. The present formed road which leads to the Sanatorium should be metalled, as this route is the safest to the seaside and the County Council should not hesitate to complete this before the winter. “Eair plav is bonny play," sir, and-the County Council should give the same consideration to the Eoxton Bench ns it has done 1o Tangimoana. Thanking you in anticipation, Yours etc., INTERESTED.

[OUR correspondent is not quite fair to the Manawatu County Council in that the land where settlement obtains at the Eoxton seaside is a Harbour Board endowment and is under the jurisdiction of the Harbour Board and not the County, although rates are paid by tenants to the Man a - watu County Council. The Tangimoana seaside belongs to the Crown and we presume that any mailing or other facilities there, is a charge on revenue derived from the settlement, and not a charge on the County. The local borough Council, Harbour Board and section holders at (he Eoxton seaside share the interest and sinking fund of the present road loan with the Manawatu County Council. We are no( able to give a rensoirwhy the present road did not continue in a direct line instead of deviating unless it was to avoid sand drift. Me suggest that our correspondent cooperate with others interested and discuss the matter with the Harbour Board. —Ed H.]
