During the holidays one of the retort doors broke, but another door was fixed temporarily; until another one is cast. The remainder of the apparatus is working well and in fair repair. There is a good demand for coke. Cr McMurray pointed out that

the gas unaccounted for was still fairly high. The Mayor said that matters in connection with the gas works would have to be gone into very carefully as unfortunately he antieijrated that the gas rate would have to be increased during next year.

Cr. Walker attributed the discrepancy of gas to the fact that the pipes in the services were fairly old. Cr. McMurray also said that repairs to the gas engine at the works ian into a fairly high sum. He suggested the installation of a new engine.

After further discussion if was decided that the works committee investigate matters and report to the next meeting. The reports were adopted.
