MARTON J.C. MEETING,

The Marton Jockey Club opened its summer meeting on New Year’s Day. Owing to its own property at present undergoing extensive alterations, this year’s meeting was held on the Feilding Club’s course. Despite the unfavourable weather, the fixture attracted a large holiday crowd and some excellent racing was witnessed. The totalisator figures showed an increase of £2,219 over last year’s figures for the same day. Bright weather prevailed for the second day, the two days’ attendance constituting a record for the club. The totalisator for the two days handled £75,793 or an increase of £7,390 on last year’s figures. Results are as follows: — FIRST DAY.

Trial Plate. —Banjuke 1, Royal Land 2, Capitulation 3. Won by a long neck, third horse two lengths away. Time 1.19.

First Hack Hurdles —Many Colours 1, Matu 2, Koauau 3. Won by one and a-half lengths, third horse three lengths away. Time 2.49. Juvenile Handicap. —Geninnes 1, Note 2, Volplane 3. Won by one and a-half lengths, third horse three Jegths away. Time 1.3 2-5. Marton Cup.—Grand Knight 1, lvilceit 2, Ngata 3. Won by a head, third horse two lengths away. Time 2.10 1-5.

Dasli Hack Handicap.—Sleet 1, Duetto 2, Girribillie 3. Won by a head, third horse a neck away. Time 1.17 1-5.

Railway Handicap.—Orchid 1, King Pot 2, Miss Ilupana 3. Won by two and a-half lengths, third horse three lengths away. Time 1.17. New Year Handicap.—Bon March 1, Kilburn 2, Son O’ Mine 3. Won by a length and a-half, third horse half a length away. Time 1.52. Stewards’ Welter Handicap.—Zaragoza 1, Alabama 2, Ring Potoa 3. Won by two lengths, third a head away. Time 1.31.

Telegraph Handicap. —Hersler 1, Orchid 2, King Pot 3. Won by one and a-half lengths. Time 1.14 1-5. Farewell Hack Handicap—Sleet 1, Duetto 2, lllingar 3. Won by half a head, third two and a-half lengths away. Time 1.15 2-5. Turakina WelterMartulla 1, Beaumont 2, Catcall 3. Won by a long head, third one and a half lengths away. Time 1.29.
