To meet the growing demand for Sunday trains from inland to the sea, the Railway Department has decided to give a trial t<> train to Fox lon and back commencing on Sunday next 201 it December. The train will continue lo run ns long as sufficient patronage is accorded it. For (he convenience of residents in the Nor!hern portion of Palmerston North the trains will commence and terminate their run at Terrace End, and will also stop if required at Cook’s Siding lo pick up or set down passengers. Special cheap fares are announced. The timetable appears in our advertising column to-day. It is understood that the Eoxton carriers have made arrangements for transporting passengers from the Railway station to the Bench at a low charge.
Another shunting accident has been added to the already long list of mishaps at the Palmerston North shunting voids (says the AI.D. Times). Early on Tuesday afternoon a “number-taker’'’ named Douglas Pye was taking the numbers on the trucks of a train, when he had a miraculous escape from (death. The were on the third line from the southern! platform and after recording the number of a truck lie stepped on to the second line directly in front of a trail of wagons that had been shunted northwards. Pye was knocked over and dragged about six yards, the trucks being brought to a stop through a solid object in his coat pocket causing the wheel to skid. It was undoubtedly through this that the truck did not pass over him. The injuries sustained were bruises to the body liesides which Mr. Pye suffered greatly from shock. Medical attention was called within five minutes of the accident and later the patient was removed to the hospital for a more thorough examination in case some internal injury had resulted.
