Manawatu Herald THURSDAY, DECEMBER 17, 1926. A FOOLISH COMMENT.
THE people of this district are fortunate in possessing a public hospital which for service, equipment, environment, and administration will compare more than favourably with the metropolitan institutions, not only of this Dominion, but in any part of the Empire. The object of all concerned is to heal the sick and, so far as medical science and nursing are concerned, the best services obtainable are at tlie disposal of suffering humanity. As population throughout the hospital district increases, the number of patients admitted rises in proportion and further accommodation is required. At present there is urgent need for building expansion and added facilities. Such matters are thoroughly discussed by (he Board, which comprise representatives of contributing bodies throughout the Board district, before contributing bodies are levied. No member of the Board-—and they are, without exception, level beaded public and business men—can be accused of sanctioning expenditure needlessly and it comes as a surprise to Invar from a local borough councillor that the object of the Board is “to spend, spend, spend,” and that hundreds go into the hospital for “rest cure.” We do not wish to labour such a though Hess comment except to ask the councillor lo obtain from the institution a comparison of benefits and financial aid to the distressed in our community in proportion lo what Foxton pa vs!
