FOXTON FIRE BOARD.

QUARTERLY MEETING

The quarterly meeting of the '’oxton Eire Board was held on Frilay evening, presided over by Air. E. I. Gray (chairman). There were ilso present: Alessrs. J. K. Horndow, IT. Eilmer, A. 11. Clerke, M. E. Perreau, F. Woods, M. H. "Walker, the secretary (Mr. Roore Rangiheuea) and the acting superintendent (Mr. J. H. Downes). The chairman welcomed Mr. Ilornblow back to the Board and his remarks were endorsed by Mr. Perreau ( CORRESPONDENCE was read and dealt with as follows : From Air. E. S. Easton re station fence proportional cost. —Resolved that payment be requested less deduction for gate and post. From cx-Superintendent Hamer, tendering his resignation.—Accepted with regret. From T. W. Hunt confirming local committee’s arrangements rc station lining and bath.—local Committee’s action endorsed. From Internal Affairs Department permitting art union to proceed in accordance with conditions us set out in original application. — Resolved to accept Department’s decision, the drawing to take place on or before the 31st inst.

From the Brigade, recommending tlm appointment of a Superintendent from outside the district. —Resolved to defer the recommendation ns the acting-superintendent had been appointed to the position for I lie current year.

SEP E RINTE N DEN T’ S RE P CRT,

The acting-superintendent re ported as follows: —

“As T have only been aiding superintendent since November 10th., 11)25, my report will be brief. Wo have a practice each Tuesday and I he attendance of members has been very god and shows the men are keen. WV have lost one member since superintendent Hamer resigned and have not yet tilled the vacancy, but 1 hope to lie at full .strength at an early date. Also our acting-deputy was taken to the hospital on November 18th., hut is now home again. The hose and other gear on (he engine are in fairly good order and have been kept clean by men on duty. The bands and clutch of the lire engine need adjusting. The social room at Hie station has heon given two coats of paint by Alessrs. A. Walls’ Alorgan and A. Lockwood and I think you will agree it is a decided improvement. 1 had the fire plug in front of Ross’s mill elevated as it was almost impossible to find it before. We hope as a brigade to send a team to compete in the. U.F.B.A. competitions at Dunedin early in March and as the men will he away before your next meeting we would be grateful if the Board could assist with a donation towards the men’s expenses. During the quarter I have pleasure in stating that no calls have been made.

Report adopted and adjustments to lire engine to be done immediato-

The Board expressed appreciation of (he work done voluntarily by members of the brigade. .

Resolved to grant the Brigade £2O in connection with delegates expenses to U.E.B.A. demonstration and oonlVrence

Resolved to request the Brigade to furnish a statement of finance half-yearly.

The local committee’s action in transferring the telephone to Foreman Reid’s residence was endorsed. It was decided also to connect the Superintendent’s residence with the telephone. Accounts amounting to £SO Is fid were passed for payment.
