BOWLING.
CHAMPION PAIRS CONTEST.
The ideal weather experienced yesterday provided an excellent opportunity for bowlers to commence play in the champion pairs contest. Five games in this competition were played, the results being as follows :
Christie and Pearson (combined handicaps 4) 29 v. Thomson and Walton (2) 12. Huntley and Whibley (4) 29 v. Nve and Healey (scr.) 20. Roore and Downes (scr.) 28 v. Wlalker and Winstanley (4) 11. Downes played lead for iioore in the absence of Perreau.
Bryant and Parkes (12) 30 v. Barr and Spring (8) 27. Nye and Healey (scr.) 38 v. Bryant and Parkes (12) 27.
Yesterday’s fine weather provided a belated opportunity for the local club to fairly get going for the season’s play. A combination of unfavourable weather, Triangular contests and other circumstances made it very difficult to date to get Club affairs fairly on the move. It is to be hoped however, that the weather conditions will now be favourable to an enthusiastic continuation of play in the pairs matches, together with “friendly” games during the evenings.
It is reported that arrangements have been made by Manawatu Centre to hold a gala day on Foxton green on Wednesday next. So far, however, no notification has been received bv the local secretary.
A match for the Manson and Barr Cup was played at. Pahiatua on Saturday, the holders (Pahiatua) successfully defending the trophy against the challenge of a Woodvillc rink.
