LIVE TO BE ONE HUNDRED.
The average life of.the American citizen is 50 years,” according to statistics. Mr. J. K. . Hornblow, whe recently visited the principal cities of America and came into personal contact with many of its citizens, says the strenuous lives they live and the food diet —particularly the latter —is accountable for this. At present a health campaign is in progress throughout the States conducted by medical men, and free daily lectures are given in the large centres from 0 a.m. to 11 p.m. pointing the way to good health and longevity. Mr. Hornblow attended two of the series of lectures in San Francisco. The language of the medical men was easily understandable and the organs of the body were displayed and their activites described. The lecturers condemned surgical operations —except in rare cases, holding that incorrect diet and overeating were the causes of nearly all ills that human flesh heir to. Meat, if eaten, should be taken as nearly as possible in a raw condition; refined sugar, white bread, potatoes, and all .starchy foods, tea, coffee and all narcotics were roundly condemned. They advocated the eating of raw fruits, vegetables and nuts and the drinking of plenty of soft, water. Operations for appendicitis, and the removal of adenoids and tonsils they condemned as criminal. The lecturers gave numerous instances of' patients who had been told that they only had a very short time to live unless operated upon who had been restored to almost perfect health by following a simple and natural diet. They assert that the span of life on a correct diet should be at least 100 years. (
