FINAL ROUND OF TRIANGULAR CONTEST. The final round of the Triangular Shield Contest was played at Levin yesterday afternoon. The weather, though threatening at times, was pleasant save for a light wind, and the green was in good playing order. Levin Club again sustained their right to hold the Shield for a further year by the substantial margin of 48 points from Shannon, which Club gained second place by a margin of 4 points over Foxton, the aggregates being as follows: — Levin 184 points, Shannon 136, Foxton 132. This having been the object which premoted the contest, he thought that object had been fulfilled.
Mr. J. Bovis, president of the Shannon Club, congratulated Levin on again wining the Shield, and in a humorous speech declared Shannon’s intention of winning the Shield next year —and if not. next year, well the year after that, or Ilia year after that. A voice: “Von are talking of Eternity, Jack!” Rev. Walton, as president of Foxton Club, also congratulated Levin, and by courtesy of Mr. Bovis, presented the Shield to Mr. Pyke. Referring to Mr. Bovis’ remarks Mr. Wa.llon said possibly Shannon would win the Shield some future year—but it. would be a leap year!
Cheers were exchanged, and compliments paid to the ladies for protiding tasty refreshments.
Mr. Bovis announced that Shannon Club desired that both Levin and Foxton Clubs should pay Shannon a visit some evening in the near future, and participate in play by electric light. The arranging of the date will be left entirely in the bands of Levin and Foxton Clubs for their mutual convenience. A meeting of the Manawatu centre was held at Palmerston N. on Tuesday afternoon, presided over by Mr. J. A. Nash, ALP. VISIT OF BRITISH TEAM. Arrangements in connection with the British team’s match on January 7th., were discussed. Although there are forty bowlers in the party, it was not certain whether all would want to play at Palmerston North. It was therefore resolved to wire Auckland to ascertain if the Britishers preferred to play eight rinks on one green or ten-rinks match split over two greens (eight on one and two on another). On the eight rinks arrangement the following basis of representation in the Manawats team was adopted: — Feiiding 5, Palmerston North 4, Terrace End 3, and Woodville, Shannon, Northern, Manawatu, Takaro, Eketaliuna, PaliiuLua, Daunevirkc, Foxton, and Levin 2 each (total 32). Palmerston North green was decided upon as the venue of the mulch after a ballot had been taken, with Terrace End as an alternative, if two extra rinks are played, Feiiding will have the honour of entertaining tiie visitors, in that case, Feiiding Club will supply the two l inks, the president to increase the basis of the other clubs in the eight rinks bowling at the Palmerston N. green. With regard to entertainment, it was decided that a smoke concerL he held for the bowlers in the evening, the chairman undertaking suitably to entertain the seventeen ladies. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs. N. H. Nash, C. I). Fraser and 0. 11. Trott was set up to arrange tor a suitable Centre badge ru be presented to each member of ihe visiting team.
