RECKLESS DRIVING.

CONSTABLE IN GAOL. Invercargill, December 2. In sentencing Alfred Henry Dusting, a policeman, found guilty of negligently driving a motor and causing bodily injury to Elizabeth McKenna, Mr. Justice Sim said that if the prisoner had admitted his guilt and had taken steps, to compensate the girl he might have granted probation; but he steadily denied his guilt up to the last, and told lies to his superior officer. In addition, it was apparent that he must have been tampering with the evidence of certain witnesses. Being a police constable, he should have set a better example. There was too much reckless driving. The accused was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labour.
