MANAWATU-HAWKE’S BAY
SYNOD.
At the Methodist ManawatuHawke’s Bay District Synod, held at Dannevirke, the statistical returns , for the district were presented by the secretary, Rev. R. S. D. Peryinan (Foxton). The figures were as follow':—Churches in the district, 43; other preaching places, 37; schoolrooms, 14; parsonages, 16; ministers and probationers, 14; home missionaries, 5; deaconesses, 1; local preachers, 85; members on the roll, 2499 (increase 52); communicants,' 1688 (increase 43); attendants on public worship, 7022. The following resolution was carried. In reviewing the general statistics for the past year, we are /grateful to be able to report increases in opr church membership and our communicant rolls. We believe this to be indicative of the gracious results of our spiritual campaign, which .should yield a very substantial increase in next year’s returns. We humbly thank the giver of all good for His. presence in our churches and earnestly pledge ourselves to more devoted service in the Master’s cause.
Reference was made by the secretary and Mr. T. R. Hodder to the necessity for prosecuting the work among bands of hope and inaugurating'. new temperance societies amongst: the young people. CHURCH PROPERTY.
Statistics and returns for the district yere submitted by Mr. T. R. Hodder, of Palmerston North. The report was presented in a racy way and was received and adopted. The heartiest thanks of the synod were accorded Mr. Hodder and his re-appointment was affirmed. The following encouraging features appear in the returns: A new infant room has been erected at the rear of Wesley Hall, Napier South, and the debt remaining on it is £69; a new parsonage has been erected in Church street, Palmerston North, at a cost of £2lO0 —-debt £1200; a new organ has been installed in the Broad Street Church, Palmerston North, at a cost of £9OO, the whole of which has been paid; an addition to the parsonage at Foxton at a cost of £35 was made, leaving no debt; land has been sold at Pahia.tua, " f Gisborne and Palmerston North amounting to £1640. Reports from the custodian of deeds and the Church building and loan sight of the home of the Father, where you may meet the eyes of Jesus Christ, fund were received and adopted. Instalments of loans repaid during the year amount to £3905 6s 2d. New loans have been advanced amounting to £3891 3s Id. The total capital account . now stands at £19,878 9s sd. The report of the local preachers’ association was presented by the secretary of the synod, Rev. S. H. D. Peryman. One new branch has been formed during the year. Books have been supplied to preachers and missionaries and financial assistance has been contributed to needy workers.
