DORCAS SOCIETY.
A committee meeting of the Foxton Dorcas Society was held in All Saints’ schoolroom on Tuesday afternoon. Present: Mesdames F. Robinson (president), Moore, Christie, Pearson, A. Ross McMurray (lion, sec.), Hynes, Barr, Peryman, Miss Ross and the Revs. Walton and McDonald, the former occupying the chair. The matron of the All Saints’ Beach Hom'e wrote thanking the Society for a parcel of clothing. The action of the president and secretary was endorsed relative to cases where assistance was given. Two fresh cases were considered at the meeting and dealt with. Accounts for £2 3s 6d were passed for payment.
At the conclusion of the business the president took the opportunity to bid farewell on behalf of the Society to Mrs R. Hynes, a member of the committee, for several years. Mrs Robinson said Mrs Hynes had always been one of most helpful and willing workers and all were sorry to lose her, and concluded by wishing Mrs Hynes happiness and prosperity, in her new home in Wairoa. Rev. Walton also spoke in appreciation of Mrs Hynes’ services to the Dorcas society. The two five ton Holt tractors arrived in Foxton a little after nine on Tuesday night. Only one gun, a six inch howitzer, was brought up from Wellington by road. One tractor broke a valve, but otherwise no mishaps were encountered.
