GAS WORKS
SEPTEMBER. WORKING. The amount of gas manufactured during the month of September was 378,200 ft., which with the amount in the holder on September Ist, 15,200 ft made a total of 393,400 ft. During the month 320,300 ft. of gas was used by consumers, 26,000 ft. at the works and there was 17,600 feet in the holder on October Ist, making a total of 363,900 ft. and leaving 29,500 ft. representing 7.6 per cent, unaccounted for. Thirty three tons of coal wore carbonized during the month, yielding 11,480 feet to the ton and producing 7 tons 10 cwt of coke.
Receipts for the month totalled £197 17s 8d and were made up as follows: —Gas sales ('lighting) £47 17s 2d, heat and power £lO3 7s Id, coke sales £8 2s 7d tar sales £2l 10s. Od, fittings £l6 3s 4d, miscellaneous 17/6. The following is the expenditure for the month: —Coal £93 15s lid, salaries and wages £SO 14s 2d, fittings £8 los 9d, working expenses 19/6, repairs £2 10s 7d, cartage and freight £3 Is lid, ’phone £2 8s 4d, Power Board £2 2s Gd, Interest and Sinking Fund £59 11s Bd, a total of £224 0s lOd.
GAS MANAGER’S REPORT. Most of the apparatus at the works is working quite satisfactorily but a good deal of trouble has been experienced with one of the gas engines as it requires a new piston and liner. The price of a new one would be about £l2 and the manager would be glad of the Council’s sanction to purchase this and have it fitted as soon as possible. One new cooker has been fitted during the month and a good deal of work of cleaning out consumers pipes and services carried out. —Adopted.
