FOXTON TENNIS CLUB.

The opening day for the Foxton Tenis Club took place on Saturday afternoon. The weather was perfect and a good crowd of members and friends assembled to participate in the function. The president (Mr. C. Simmons) in his address referred to the unsatisfactory state of the courts. He stated that the Club had decided not to spend anything further in improving the present two courts. More ground was needed and the Club was waiting for another site where it would be possible to lay down four or more courts. He wished the Club a successful season and called on Mrs McMurray to play the first ball over the net.

A yankee tournament was successfully carried out. The hon. sec. (Mr. C. Proctor) is to be congratulated on his efforts which helped considerably to make the tournament one of the most successful yet held.

Mrs McMurray and Miss Perreau tied for first place in the ladies’ games, Mrs McMurray winning in the playoff Mr L. G. Bryant won the men’s prize. Mr Simmons, in presenting the prizes (two pairs of balls), took the opportunity of thanking Mrs F. C. Ilay, who donated the prizes. Afternoon tea was presided over bv the lady members.
