MEETING OE MANAGEMENT

COMMITTEE.

The closing meeting for the season of the Horowhenua Rugby Union took place at Levin on Tuesday evening, the following members of the Management Committee being present: Messrs Proctor (chairman), Robertshaw, Rimmer, McDonald, Austin, McMillan, Carmichael, and Hutchins. An apology was received from Mr. Anderson. . , . , „ In connection with the receipt ot challenges for the Austin Banner a letter was read from Mr. F. A. Mason, headmaster of the Foxton School, pointing out the desirability of challenges being received by July y s L_—Resolved that Mr, Mason’s suggestion be a recommendation to the incoming committee. The chief object of the meeting was to consider the present financi al position of the Union, which was disclosed as showing a deficit of £7O ls._ The secretary outlined the difference between various sources if revenue this year as compared with similar items of last year. The total amount received last year for gates was £3OO 6s 7d, as. against £206 2s 7d this year, a difference of nearly £IOO, while the total receipts from all sources amounted to £291 17s lOd, compared with £4ld last year. The secretary stated that the falling-off in gates had occurred in towns out-side Levin. Shannon was a case in point where, for example, at the time of the ei - aroa—Shannon game, the total net revenue from the gate was six shillings, but a large crowd had been in attendance! This came about through lack of a proper fence and would have to be investigated before the 1926 season started. Again, the gate receipts at .Otafei had fallen from £45 9s 8d in 1924 to £l4 6s 10d for the season just terminated. Mr Robertshaw, the Shannon delegate, suggested making application to the New Zealand Rugb> Union for the loan of £IOO, and in so doing pointed out that the Union onlv had one rep. game throogUon the season. This fixture had unfortunately clashed with the We lington—Hawke’s Bay match. The secretary : Yes, and we had to fight League as well. It was decided to forward the audited balance-sheet with a reques for a loan to the New Zealand Rugby Union, for the latters con sideration. -
