CROQUET.
OPENING OF LOCAL COURTS.
The local croquet court was opened yesterday afternoon in conjunction with the Bowling Club’s green. Visitors were present from Levin and Feilding Clubs, and despite the unfavourable weather a very enjoyable afternoon was spent. Two competitions were held—Monte Carlo and French croquet —both of which were won by Mrs ‘McMurray. The following trophies were presented to the winners of last season’s competitions by the President of the Bowline Club: —
Handicap singles.—First prize, (Mr. Barr’s trophy), won by Mrs McMurray; second, prize, (Club's trophy), won by Mi’s Head. Points prize, awai’ded to player who obtained highest points apart from Ist and 2nd place (Mrs S. Austin’s trophy), won by Mrs Barr. Thirty Minutes Competition. — First prize (Club’s trophy) won by Mrs Huntley; second prize (Mrs Owen’s trophy) won by Mrs McMurray. A gala day will be held on Feilding courts on Tuesday, 20th inst. Terrace End courts will be opened on Saturday, 24th inst. Invitations have been extended to local players to be present at both the foregoing functions. Those desiring to make the trip are requested to communicate with Mrs Owen. Players are reminded that the thirty minutes tourney for this season commences at 2 o’clock on Wednesday next. Contestants must be on the green not later than 3 p.m.
