HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

The committee met in the C. M. Ross Coy.’s building on Tuesday evening. There were present: — Mr. D. Christie (president), Mesdaines P. Easton, Barr, McMurray, F. Proctor, Messrs, Poole, Jno. Ross, W. Nye, James Ross and Rev. \V. H. AYalton. Apologies were received from Mesdames Baker and Murphy, Rev. Peryman and Mr. Murphy. 1 & Before the commencement of business, the president referred to the great loss the Society had sustained by the death of Mrs F. Mason and moved that the sympathy of the Society he conveyed to Mr. Mason. This was carried in the usual manner.

The date for the Summer Show was fixed for Friday, November 13. It was decided to delete the following sections from the schedule, the entries in these not being sufficient to warrant retaining them: — Cottage gardens, dairy produce, decorative, for girls between the ages of 15 to 18 years, also that the fancy work section be included for this show with the understanding that unless entries increase it be deleted from further schedules.

A section of pot plants was added, also lloaling howl wid basket of fruit and foliage and posy. It was agreed that the judge’s decision in regard to decorated table with emhelishment he placed in a sealed envelope and that cards he issued to judge this class by_ popular vote and both the results announced at t) p.m. on evening of the Show.

Various additions were made to the schedule. The following offered a special prize for sections: — Alt's F. Proctor, J. M. Bair and Mr. Tong. Mrs Easton offered a cake competition, Mi'. James Ross a trophy for champion rose. Mrs. John Ross and All's McLaren are taking charge of the tea-room. It was decided to have a stall for ice cream and soft drinks. The president undertook to arrange for a programme'’of musical items. The silver band is to be asked to contribute.

The following judges were appointed (subject to their consent) for the Bummer Show: —Roses and Sweet peas, Air. F. Mason (Feilding); cut blooms, pot plants, fruit mid vegetables, Air. A. J. Shaiier; decorative, Airs Barltrop (Bedding) ; cookery, Air. A. E. Whitehead.

The next meeting was iixed for Friday, October 30.
