AMENDMENTS TO STAMP DUTIES.

Wellington, Last Night. A short amendment to the Stamp Act was introduced last night. It aims at strengthening the law relating to attempts to defraud, lhe duty on mortgage is altered from 5/-'per £IOO to's/- if the mortgage does not exceed £IUO and 10/where it does exceed that amount. The stamp duty ou mortgage release is to be 5/- if the principal is under £SOO and 10/- in cases where the principal exceeds £SOO. Instruments of dedication of highways are to be wholly exempt from payment of stamp duty.
