ENGINEER’S REPORT.

The Power Board Engineer (Mr. Smith) reported as follows to Tues-

day’s meeting on the work carried out during August:— Line construction. —The pole gang have ere'eted 188 poles in the following districts: Tokomaru, Foxton, Paraparaumu and Ohau. No. 1 wire gang have run 701 chains of wire, erected 22 service poles, and ran 12 services. They were three days changing over wiring at Seifert’s mill, and two days working on No. 1 Foxton sub-cir-cuit. They completed the low tension along ICahina Road and this section is now livened up, and all

consumers on. No. 2 wire gang have run 1317 chains of wire, erected 24 poles and run 15 services: Manakau and Kuku.

No. 3 wire gang is working on Foxton and on low tension from new transformer on No. 2 circuit, also on No. 1 sub-circuit E.H.T. Have run 1785 chains of wire out, erected 20 service poles and run 15 services.

No. 4 wire gang is working at Te , Horo, Paraparaumu, Paekakarki and Te Horo Beach, and have ran 883 chains of wire, erected 12 poles and run 13 services. They have also d'oubled up the line along Tewaka Road and Hautere Cross Road. They have run the low tension up to Mr. Fraser’s, north of Waikanae, and this section is now livened up. No. 5 wire gang have ran services : Foxton Road, Levin, Ohau and Foxton Beach. Have run 570 chains of wire, erected 24 service poles and run 19 services. They have put down an extra earth pipe at each road crossing and transformer on No. 1 circuit and a number on No. 3 circuit. They have painted all the street light brackets at Foxton Beach and in Foxton Borough. Sub-station fitters: Built and fitted up subs at Fraser’s Road and No. 4 Foxton-Shannon line. Built platforms ready for panels at Kuku and Soldiers’ Settlement Roads. No. 4 Foxton-Shannon set has been increased from 15 to 25 k.w. Dried out and filled' several transformers, etc. The wet and stormy weather during the past month delayed the work and during the two heavy thunder storms several transformer fuses had to be placed.

Full particulars were given of workshop repairs and routine woi-k. Installation group process. — Lunn and Henley have completed the Heatherlea group and all con-

sumers have been livened up with the exception of two which require ' a short extension of the low tension lines. A. Allen has completed the Soldiers’ Settlement and is working

on some additional installations that have been added to Kukn group. Eeles and Co. have completed all group work in Otaki and south of Otaki and are working on several installations in different districts. C. H. Marriott is making good progress with the Paraparaumu Valley Road group and will have it completed in a few days. During the period the following consumers have been signed up:— Levin district. —16 lighting, 3 ranges, 9 milking, and 7 water heaters. Otaki. —10 lighting, 4 ranges, 4 8 water heaters. Six applications for extensions to existing installations have been granted. Test room.—Testing work has been carried out as follows: Single phase meters, 152: Polyphase meters, 61. Earth tests have been made over No. 1 circuit. During the month motors aggregating 1814 h.p. have been connected at A. Seifert’s mill, making a total to date of 300 h.p. in this mill .Herewith is attached a schedule of installations connected to the Board’s system up-to September 10th. ’ Contracts and supplies. —The principal goods received during the month have been five tons bare copper cable, 10 miles tripple braided cable, 2000 low tension insulators, 1000 low tension shackle insulators, 1220 feet, 3 x 3 and 4 x 3 hardwood, 24 copper boilers, 11-20 amp. meters. The principal items delivered to consumers were 30 water heaters, including special 50gallon size for the Central Development Farm, 15 motors and 2 ranges. General. —An examination for master wiremen was held on the 7th September—four sitting for master wiremen. The maximum demand at the power house is now over 938 k.w.
