Manawatu Herald THURSDAY, SEPTEM. 17. 1925. OUR SEASIDE BESORT.
TIIK jiclion <>l" (lie Kiixlmi Harbour Board in deciding I" set aside a piece of land al Ilia eastern end of tin* reserve at llie local seaside as a future site for a kiosk, is an indication that members are alive to requirements in this -connection. When authorising the surveys of portions of the Board’s reserve from time to time, as circumstances demand, Board members will no doubt continue to peer into tin l future and {range tin l ultimate requirements of that locality before finally deciding on any definite step in the allocation of areas as ordinary building sites. To Whnrnngi is becoming more popular each season as a health and holiday resort, and the establishing of a kiosk or hostel for the convenience of visitors, both for short and extended periods, is now more than ever necessary. In conjunction with such an establishment. ample grounds will he necessary, not only for parking cars, as stated by Mr Holden, hut also that the building may he placed in worthy surroundings befitting the class of structure we presume Board, members had in mind. It should he remembered, when touching on the question of an hostel in that locality, that the appointments he viewed entirely in the light of the purpose for which the building would he erected —that is, for the convenience of holiday-makers on pleasure bent. Taking a brief peep into the future, we may see the good work of the Board and the Beach Improvement Committee hearing fruit. The great number of voting trees now established among (he sand dunes will have developed, and transformed the landscape, giving a still more inviting appearance to the locality, trod increasing the charms of the foreshore and ocean bench by their oiler ol shade and shelter. This feature will greatly increase the popularity of the Beach its a holiday resort, and out of its popnlaiity will arise a positive demand for such, conveniences its an up-to-date accommodation house. Such building, to he in keeping with the holiday spirit, would provide all comforts, be pleasant in design, and require harmonious surroundings to promote complete relaxation, as a true vacnlional environment should, and in this respect ample ground area will he required. Our seaside rtisort has made considerable growth of late years, and its increasing popularity is plainly evident to even the most casual observer, and it may prove a. simple prophesy that ils growth in future will lie inereasing--1 v proportionate each year, and as time develops the good work being done by the Board iiih[ Beach Improvement Committee, Uoxton will witness the expansion of Te W’liarangi into a resort of importance, and with judicious advertising will become known and popular in parts far removed which at present are unaware that we have at oar door one of the lines) river foreshores and ocean beaches that this island can boast. The psychology of advertising as applied to this question is quite a thing apart from the purpose of this article, Imt as the lies) of goods henetil by a smart label which creates an added desire to taste and try, we make the suggestion that Uoxton Beach—Te Wliarangi—for ouphoniiis reasons and advertising appeal he re-christen-ed. Say for instance: '“Silversands,” Uoxton’s Beautiful Seaside Resort.
