BEACH TRAGEDY.
“FLATTIE” RECOVERED AT PUKERUA.
Word was received in Foxton on Thursday of the discovery at Pukerua Bay, a few miles south of Paekakariki, of the “flattie” which was swamped on the Foxton bar last Sunday week, resulting in the tragedy wherein Mr. Thos. Staff and four of his children lost their lives. Pukerua Bay, a popular seaside resort, is between 50 and 60 miles from the scene of the fatality and in all probability the boat covered a much greater distance than that during the course of its drift. As the unrecovered bodies of the three children, like the boat, may have been carried by the ocean current further south than was anticipated. The beach right down to Pukerua will now be searched. The local police would be pleased of the assistance of anyone able to spare the day tomorrow to give them a band to search the beach for the missing bodies of the victims of the recent Beach drowning fatality. Anyone able to go please communicate with either Constable Owen or Ryan.
