UNITED SPORT’S ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the United Sport’s Association was held in fhe Racing Club’s office last night, when there were present Messrs. IV. T. Jewell (president). Barber, Pearson. Thompson, Perreau Ogilvv, Austin, Hutchins, Christie, Bryant, Mason, Alexander, Barron and F. Rimmer (seereiary). It was decided that a further application lie made to.ihe president of the N.Z.A.C.U. for permission fo hold motor sports at Foxton on Labour Day (October 2f>th) and that the Mannwaiu branch be asked to co-operate. The president reported that the Racing Club had agreed to allow the Association the use of the course on that date. —A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the club. The following events were decided upon: Five mile light-weight Handicap, eight mile open ltanddeap, push-hike (half mile), six mile middle-weight handicap, push-hike (3.} miles), twelve mile open handicap, push-bike (:; mile), eight mile class handicap (for machine capable of lapping in 03 seconds or better) push-bike (1 mile), ten mile open handicap. The total prize money to lie awarded is £l2O.
The secretary reported that Mr. Dawbcr had donated a gold medal for the II mile push-bike event. Subject to the president of the N.Z.A.C.U. giving a permit for the meeting to he held on the date suggested, it was decided to affiliate with the Union and that the president be advised accordingly. Reprcsenation is to be made to ilie Borough Council and School committee on the advisability of providing public swimming baths. — Speakers stressed the necessity of every child being taught to swim, and the president pointed out that Ihe racing club bad already taken Ihe matter up. Mr. Perreau mentioned that the Beautifying Society had convened a public meeting, and at a recent meeting of the school committee, he had been authorised to obtain a vacant section adjourning Uinkara Gardens from the Maoris, and so far he had been successful in obtaining the consent of the principal owner. Tn Ihe event of ihe baths being erected, in connection with the school, the Education Department would pay a fairly large sum towards the cost.
Messrs. Jewell and Barber were appointed to represent the Association at the public meeting which is to be held early in September.
A vote of sympathy was passed to Mrs T. Staff in her loss last Stinda v.
