SOUTHLAND WIN' AT PALATERS-

The first official team of the newl\ amalgamated Alanawatu-Horo-whenua Rugby union met the Southland representatives yesterday. The visitors combination was the deciding factor, together with their superior hooking and the clever game [slaved bv Kilby, the half-back, the combined team led by !> points to S at half-time, and the linal score was Southland 28, Mniiawalu-lloro-whenua 12. The scorers for the winners were Preston (2), Alley, Hell. Kilby, Macdonald and Rice. Richardson and Kilby each converted a ny and the last-named kicked a penalty goal. For the losers, P.rophy, Corby and Ranslleld scored tries and Jacob kicked a penalty goal. Uropliy. W'iniain, Aknira, and .Jacob were outstanding ManawamIlorowhonna players.
