FOXTON PUBLIC SCHOOL.
W. Tfirini, of Foxton PublicSchool lias been selected to play in the Manawatu Public Schools’ Representative Football team against Representative teams from Wanganui, Wellington and Wairarapa. The Tournament will be held this year at Wanganui and begin on Saturday next.
Miss Wlillinrns, Infant Mistress at the local public school received word on Tuesday last of the death of her father Mr. IV. Williams of of Ml. Pleasant Marlborough, and left for Pieton yesterday. The late Mr. Williams was one of the oldest residents in the district in which lie resided and was highly esteemed by all who knew him. Miss Williams has the deepest sympathy of her many friends in her sad bereavement.
Yesterdav al'ternoon llio members o]-' |ho Shannon School Football ami basket ha 11 teams visited Foxton ami played games against teams from the local Public School. The football match which resulted in a draw —3 points each was a very evenly contested game, despite the fact that the visitors were much bigger bovs all round. At basketball the local girls suffered defeat, hut showed superior knowledge of the game it being evident that the Shannon girls had not been worked along correct lines, or at least according to the rules set out hv the authorities. Alter the matches both teams partook of afternoon tea — provided by the local children and dispensed under the direction of the lady staff. Mr. F. Mason headmaster expressed the delight the Foxton children had in having a visit from Shannon school and hoped that the visitors had enjoyed iheir games and would come again. Air. Morgan the teacher in charge of the visitors thanked the children ami teachers for their hospitality ami invited the Foxton teams to visit Shannon after the holidays. Hearty reciprocal cheers were then fxclm nged, Air. Mason desires to thank all parents and friends who so generously responded to his call for donations of refreshments.
