AIANAWATU-HOROWIIENUA ADMINISTRATORS AIEET.
On Saturday night at Freeman’s tearooms, Palmerston North, the members of the executives of the Manawatn and Ilorowhenua Rugby Unions held lhe first meeting of the amalgamated Union and to elect officers as under: —Patron: Mr. 11. I’. Gibbons (Mnninvntu); president: Mr. A. ITannay (Manawatn); vicepresidents: Aressrs. T. Collins (Alanawatu) and J. W. Proctor (Horowlienua); lion, treasurer: Mr. J. R. llnrdie (Alaimwalu); lion, secretary: Air. J. B. Proud (Manawatn); committee: Alessrs. W. Carruthers, H. Crawford and K. W. Eglinion (Manawatn), S. Austin, L. S. Carmichael, J. W. Einnner and F. Robinson (Ilorowhenua); lion, auditors: Alessrs. A. S. Faire and C. W. White (Manawatn). The whole of the fifteen members of the Horowlienua executive were present, but there were four Alanawafu absentees. Air. A. Ilannay was voted to the chair, his election to president being heartily applauded. The meeting adopted the by-laws of the two district unions and two recommendations were made to the executive committee: (1) That the Union consider the question of dividing the competitions into divisions; and (2) that the boundary between the district unions ho from Longbuni to the Manawatn River, to Sorensen's corner, thence to the sea.
In speaking to the matter of divisions Mr. J. W. Kimiiier advocated following the soccer system where the two bottom first division teams lost, their places for the next season to the top second division I on ms. EXECUTIVE MEETS. A short meeting of the newly-el-ected committee was then held. It was decided to assemble the Alaimwalu-Horowhetma. team to play Southland, at Palmerston N., on Tuesday night, its members to meet at gymnasium at 7.30. Messrs. W. Carruthers and T. Wrigley were appointed joint managers. The next meeting will he held at Palmerston North on the night of 1 lie New South Wales v. We.llingl.on--1 lorowhenua-Manawatn match. CELEBRATING THE OCCASION. AL’. and Airs. Leu. Freeman then entertained the delegates at supper, the mom and table being prettily decorated in the colours of the union. At the head of the fable was a (lowered arch from which was suspended a bon mot “Success to the Alaimwatu-Ilnrowbeniia. union." Many and varied were the toasts proposed, honoured and responded 10, all the remarks being brief, to the point and in keeping with the occasion. In response to the mast of “The Native Race" the only Maori present, Air. lioiii McMillan (Levin), in a speech of dignified eloquence, stressed the bon camaraderie that existed between the members of the native and European races. At the conclusion ol his remarks lie presented Mr. Ilannay with a pipe, the howl of which was carved with three heads, emblematic of his duty as president to look at tilings from more than any one angle; with three pairs of eyes as if were. The Secretary's duty being of a "one-eyed’ nature (gioal. laughter) to look after finance eh idly, Ai r. McMillan also handed a pipe to Air, J. B. Proud; carving consisting only of one head. Both recipients acknowledged the unexpected gifts which they said they would treasure as priceless.
