SHUNTING ACCIDENTS

RAILWAY DISSATISFIED WITH GOYE BN MENT INQUIRY. DEMAND FULLEST PUBLICITY. A special meeting of the Palmerston North branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants was held in the Social Hall on Sunday when there was a very large attendance of members present, The meeting was called for __flE ** the purpose of discussing the proposed sitting at P. N. of the Enquiry Board set up by the Government to consider shunting conditions, etc. After the matter had been very fully and freely discussed, the following resolution was carried unanimously:-

“That this branch of the A.S.R.S. wish to draw public attention to the fact that, for the past two years we have been demanding a public inquiry into the shunting condition in the Palmerston North yard, coupled with the attitude of the foreman. Seeing that our requests have been refused, it is therefore resolved by ibis meeting to ignore the Board of inquiry as set up by the Minister or Railways, on he grounds that neither the A.S.K.S. or shunters were consulted as to its com-

position. We, therefore request that a public inquiry open to the press as requested by the Society be set up without delay to consider shunting conditions.”' —Times.
