THE SHANNON PUNT

The punt at the Shannon Bridge was out of act ion for several days last week hut is now in operation again. A Departmental officer, in conversation with onr representative stated that last Friday he had attempted to go from Foxton to Shannon and on arriving at the punt had been informed that if was not working on account of the fresh in the river. Consequently he had to return io Palmerston North and proceed to Shannon via Toicomaru. A great deal of time was lost in having to go out to the punt to find out if it was working or not as no information could he gleaned on this point locally. He was of opinion that a notice should he posted in post office or some other public place notifying whether the punt was working or not and i bus save people having to travel about eight miles to find out.
