SOCCER.

FOXTON v. FLOCK HOUSE.

Foxton journeyed to play their initial game against the boys from across the sea on Saturday last. The blue did not have their full complement, their nine representatives being defeated by three goals to one. The game throughout was for the main evenly contested, the red eleven having slightly the benefit of the play. Early in the game Cotter, Anderson and Muirhead showed well for Ploc-k House, their combination ending in the latter placing a well-timed shot between the posts. Foxton felt the loss of two capable forwards, but pressed with determination. From a. melee in front of the goal W. McKnight notched Foxton’s only point, making the score 1 all. Neither side gained any deciding advantage from the mid-field play which followed, and half-time came with the scores equal. After the lemons, Flock House put in useful work, both in attack and defence, and a few moments saw their second goal scored —a spectacular example of combination between Cotter and Long* t a IT, who made the score 2 —l. Foxton rallied, but felt the loss of their absent men. Crowe showed up conspicuously. Towards the close of the spell, Goiter, the brilliant centre, made a great effort, and shot; hard and true for the posts. The final whistle sounded, leaving the score: Flock House 3, Foxton 1. Mr Powell refereed.

At the conclusion of the game the visitors were entertained to a hearty tea by the Flock House staff. After full justice had been done to the meal, Mr J. McKnight, in a few words, thanked the Flock House staff, and regretted that the team had to leave so soon. He assured their hosts, however, that their hospitality was fully appreciated, and called for three hearty cheers, which were readily given. It, is the earnest hope of the team that an early date will witness another evening spent at the estate.
