UNUSUAL MAIL SERVICE
78 CALLS IX 18 MTLES. “I spent yesterday going over one of the most unique mail services in said the Deputy Post-master-General (Mr J. MeConnchie) the other morning (says a Brisbane paper). “It was from Yamuna to Maroochydore, by boat along the Maroochydore river. Mails and oilier goods are delivered regularly along the river for 18 miles, through beautiful green cane fields. The boat continually dodges from side to side of the river and makes no fewer than 78 calls during the 18 miles, including the Coolum Creek settlement. Notwithstanding these stops, the work was done expeditiously and the boat took only three hours to do the trip.”
