GRATUITIES FOR FIREFIGHTERS.

• A Fire Brigade Bill, which is mainly a consolidating measure, was brought down to-day. Most of the new clauses are not of great importance. The disqualification clause prohibits the election to Fire Boards of alien persons of unsound mind, undischarged bankrupts, persons convicted and imprisoned persons bolding of office or place of profit under or in the gift of the Board, and persons interested in contracts with the Board in certain circumstances mentioned. There are provisions for the establishment. of a capital expenditure fund, aud grand commissioners, and also a. deferred payment fund for gratuities or pensions on retirement to firemen or their dependants.
