MOTHERHOOD ENDOWMENT.
10/- OB EACH CHILD, 25/- FOE WIDOWS. Wellingtou, Last Night. The Motherhood Endowment Bill, which Mr M. J. Savage, one of Auckland's Labour members, is endeavouring to have adopted by Parliament, proposes that there shall be cash payments of 10s weekly for every child who is under 15 years of age, the Bill to apply to children where there are more than two children in tlie family. Mr Savage’s idea is that unless some provision is made for every addition Lo the family, the standard of living for every member of the family must Tall. The BHI proposes a payment of
10s per week to each child in excess of two. Where the income is equal to the male living wage plus 10/tio payment is to be made. When the mother is dead, or not maintaining the child, the 10s is to be paid to some authorised person, the Minister to have power to vary or
withdraw the endowment. JLn the case of widows, there is provision for 10s a week in respect of every child under 15 years, with an additional 25s to the widow.
