SOCCER.

RANGERS 4 v. FOXTON 3. (By “Penalty.”) Wet weather prevailed for the league match, Rangers v. Foxton, at Foxton on Saturday last. Foxton took the field with nine men, and although beaten, the team as a whole did credit to themselves. Immediately on the kick-off, Rangers attacked, and shortly notched their opening point. Mid-field play followed, Foxton being unlucky not to even rife score. The ground became heavy, and the ball greasy, and it was no surprise when Rangers increased their lead to three, Beer, MeAvenue and Miliar all contributing one each. Foxton’s only score in (he spell came from Winstanley, per medium of Travers, and the half-time score read: Rangers 3, Foxton 1. Play resumed immediately in drizzling rain. The blue was conspicuous in the white territory, and it was not long before Travers gained Foxton’s second point with a well-timed drive. Rangers livened up, for some time pressing bard for a decided advantage. A centre of Millar's was dropped by the Foxton goalie, and the whistle proclaimed a goal. Foxton then dominated the. game, and Travers again succeeded in scoring. With any luck the. blue would have scored again, but in the falling light the whistle blow for time, leaving the scores: Rangers 4, Foxton 3.
