SOCCER.
PONTON V. RANGERS. The local team travelled to .Palmerston North on Saturday last to meet tlie Ranger’s eleven in the league competition. The Eoxton learn was unfortunate in that it was unable to travel with its full complement and as a result sub-.-?u tales had to be resorted to. The game, in spile oi this, was evenly contested throughout, the score 1-0 in favour of the home team being a lair indication of the game. The first spell opened with an attack by Rangers only to be counuraeted by the visitors, flay assumed a give and take nature, the ground being sloppy and the ball greasy. This made the game slow out after frequent attacks Rangers lound the net with a lucky but good goal, Ship, the visiting keeper, just lading to clear. This sudden reverse acted on the blue eleven who brightened up and were stiil pressing at half-time. flay brightened up considerably alter half-time, each side making, repeated eiLoris, Eoxton in the main being uuforlunate not to hud the net. Ship was in his usual great Lorin and dealt with all in an experienced manner. A. Crowe figured considerably in Eoxlon’s defense while for Rangers L. Crowe and Beer were well to the fore. Shortly before the end of the spell two snots from W. McNight and feme were sent to the home goalie who saved in a good style. The whistle blew before Eoxton could score and the game ended Rangers 1, Eoxton nil. Mr. Johnston refereed.
