FIRE IN HOSPITAL.

A SMART SAVE. Gisborne, June 12. Late this afternoon black smoke was seen issuing from the roof of St. Helens Home. The patients, under the cure of the nursing stall, were speedily removed. The fire brigade made a prompt appearance, and it was seen that the blaze had originated in the kitchen ceiling, and that the top of the wall was alight. The brigade made a smart save, the tire being soon got under. Several of the rooms however, were damaged by water. The building is built partly of wood and partly of iron, and consists of twenty rooms and three wards.
