— + COUNTIES REQUESTED TO COMMENCE WORK AT FOXTON. At the annual .meeting of the Foxton Chamber of Commerce a motion ivas carried to the effect that the Manatvalu and Horoivhenua County Councils be approached with a view to getting them to commence their main highway work at Foxton. The co-operation of the Foxton Borough Council and Harbour Board was sought and the united request has already met with the favourable consideration of the Manawatu County Council. This body has decided that the first work in its main highways scheme will be the Whirokino deviation, to be folloAved by the tar sealing of the Himatangi Road. No reply to the request has yet been received from the Horoivhenua County Council, but it is anticipated that the matter Avill be before that body at its next meeting. At Tuesday’s meeting of the Kairanga County Council a letter was received from the Foxton Harbour Board asking that the council begin road operations at the Foxton end of the county in order that the party may offer the advantages of landing bitumen in a reasonable manner.
