FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Foxton Harbour Hoard was held in I lie secretary's office this morning', presided over by Mr J. Linklater, M.P.. (chairman). Also present were Messrs J. A. Nash, M. P., E. H. B. ITolhen, T. Clapham, W. E. Barber, I?. McMurray, d. Chrystall and Mortensen (Levin). MOTION OF SYMPATHY. Before commencing the usual business of llie Board the Chairman moved the following motion: 1 Bat this Board place on record (lie great services rendered to the Board and Empire by the late Mr \\. F. Massey, and that this Board express its deep sympathy with Mrs Massey in her sad loss.” In speaking to the motion, Mr Linklater said the death of Mr Massey was a great loss fo the Board. At all times in the past he had given Board matters placed before him a very sympathetic and careful consideration, and the Board had always received a full measure of .justice from him in matters pertaining to the Board. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Tn moving that Dir Linklater he re-elected chairman. Mr TTolben said that Mr Linklater, together with Mr Nash, spent a great deal of time on Board matters, particularly in regard to anything that had to go before the Government. With these two members in the House, the Board was saved a great deal of time and expense, which would naturally be incurred if laymen had to deal with such propositions. Mr Linklater was a live member of the Board, and lie hoped that pleasure and profit to the Board would result from his being re-elected to a further term of office. Dir Nash seconded the motion, and sahk-t-bat ai times Dir Linklater and" himself had been up against some hot propositions in connection with the Board, but had generally succeeded in being successful. They had been told point blank that the Board could not have a railway siding to the shed, hut he was happy to say that that was now settled .Did tlm Board had got it. Referring to Mr T.inlda I or, lie snid tlintnofhing was too much for him. The motion was carried by aeela illation.
Mr Linklater returned thanks, and said it had always been a pleasure to do anything for the Board, because lie was always ably backed up by I lie members. He considered (lie Board had made fair progress during the past year, and hoped that this year even greater improvements would he effected at the port. Tn conclusion, he extended a hearty welcome to the new members on the Board. Dfessrs DlcMurray (Foxfon) and DTorteiison (Levin), He also made appreciative reference to the work of the lcliring members (Messrs W. Signal and Biminer). Dir Signal, lie said, bad been untiring in bis work on behalf of the Board, and his work at all times had been given gratuitously. Mr Holbeii said Mr Signal had given Ids energies to the Board as if it had been for his own personal benefit. It was a great pity he was not returned to the Board. As the port progressed, it was men of such ability as Dir Signal possessed who were* wanted on the Board.
Mr Chrystnll also deplored the loss of Mr Signal's valuable assist - aneo, and said Iliat some very unlair erilieism had been levelled at him. He had been one of' the most loyal members of the Board. Other officers were elected as follows: —Treasurer, Mr W. E. Barbel-; secretary, Mr It. Kangiheuea; harbour master, Mr C. S. Larsen. Voles of thanks were accorded Hoard employees for their work during the past year, special mention being made of the Secretary.
