CHILDREN’S BALL.

A DECIDED SUCCESS. The expectations of Foxton children were fully realised at the opening of the plain and fancydress ball in the Town Hall last evening, held under the auspices of All Saints’ Ladies’ Guild, when they found that the culminating point had been attained in the completion of the arrangements for their reception and enjoyment. The attendance was exceptionally good, the function passing off without a hitch, and cun he looked upon as a record in juvenile dances for Foxton. The interior of the hall was attractively decorated with paper fringing and greenery, and when blended with the bright colours of fancy dresses, presented a scene most picturesque and gay-. The proceedings commenced with the Grand March, and the floor was occupied by the children until 10 o'clock, dancing being freely indulged in by the little “dots” and older ones aliko, till Hipping gaily, under the guidance of a number of willing adults, (o Ihe strains of spirited music supplied by Messrs IT. George, 13. Walls, Barnet I and Graham. Fancycostumes were well in evidence, and ranged from the unobtrusive “Chief Cook" to the more gorgeous attire of the “Indian" and “Chinese Mandarin," and even a Christmas Tree in orthodox hearing, one dress vicing with the other as the youngsters jostled about merrily or attempted to imitate their elders, who piloted them round to the steps of Iho dreamy waltz, or the confusing figures of the lancers. By special request, the Grand March was repeated .just before supper. The welfare and enjoyment of tiie children was presided over by Messrs W. Barber and Trueman as M’s.C. A plentiful and sumptuous supper was provided for those present, and a small army of helpers were kept busy attending to the appetites and thirst o(» such a host of children, Alter supper, the children resumed dancing until a little after 10 o'clock, when they retired, still happy with the memory of a good time spent at this annual function. The supper, as usual, was in ihe capable hands of the Ladies’ Guild, under the direction of Mrs Walton. The many willing helpers were amply rewarded by ihe expressions ot appreciation. Thanks are due to the orchestra, which gave excellent music. The secretaries, Messrs Christie and Trueman, had arrangements verycomplete. The stage decorations were carried out by Mr D. Christie, who is well-known for his artistic work in this direction. The Ladies' Guild desire to thank all who worked so hard to make it a success, and are quite sure- that the children's enjoyment was it sufficient reward.
