FOXTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the above was held in the Town Hall on Thursday night, presided; over by the President (Mr D. Christie). Also present were Messrs Jno. Ross, F. Woods, F. Rimmer, G. F. Smith, M. E l’erreau, H. Osborne, J. Chrystall, W, T. "Winstanley, A. E. Admore, E. Healey, F. Mason, and the secretary, (Mr. R. McMurray). MOTION OF SYMPATHY. The President in moving a motion of sympathy to Mrs Massey and deploring the loss sustained by the country in the demise of Mr Massey, made euologistic reference to the work of the Premier. The motion was carried in the usual manner. The annual report, as previously published, was read and adopted and the President complimented on on his very comprehensive outline of the year’s work. The balance-sheet disclosed the receipt for the year as £l9 13s 2d, which was considered a very satisfactory state of affairs. NEW MEMBERS. Messrs IT. Hornblow, F. G. Smith, E. G. Martin, S. E. Cowley and F. C. Raikes were elected new members of the Chamber. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers resulted as follows: — President:. Mr A. E. Admore; vice-president: Mr Jno. Ross; Council: Messrs D. Christie, F. Woods, F. Mason, T. W. Winstanley, F. Rimmer, R. McMurray, J. Chrystall, IT. Osborne, F. G. Smith, C. A. Pearson, S. E. Cowley and D. R. Barron. Secretary: Mr. F. Rimmer; treasurer: Mr E. Healey; lion, solicitors: Messrs Moore and Bergin: auditor: Mr Poole. Votes of thanks were accorded past officers. In vacating the chair and welcoming the newly-elected president, Mr D. Christie thanked the members lor the support they had accorded him during the past year and the consideration they, had always given matters in connection wiili the Chamber. He also pointed out that there were several matters of importance to lie brought, up during the coming year. LevinMarton Railway League matters would be coming before the Chamber and would need careful consideration. As members had probably noted Mr Coates was now elected Premier, and that meant that their idea would be put back as Mr Coates was up against the proposition. It was probable that; Mr Nash M.P. would be appointed Minister of Railways and if that was the case the whole thing was hopeless under the present Government. However, the present Government would not alwavs be in favour.

RAILWAY COAL THROUGH PORT. It was resolved to write to the Minister of Railways urging that, in the future coal for railway purposes lie shipped through the port of Foxfon. MAIN 'HIGHWAYS. It was decided to write the Manawatu and Horowlienua County Councils urging that they start their main highway work from the port of Foxton. GENERAL ELECTIONS. On the motion of Air D. Christie it was resolved that in the interests of the business people ot the country the Government lie asked to hold the elections earlier than usual this year. Mr Chrystall voted against the motion. ADVERTISING FOXTON. A committee consisting of Alessrs McMurray, Perreau Admore and Christie was set up to prepare suitable matter advertising Foxton and Beach to be fonvarded to the Minister of Internal Affairs for inclusion in a booklet shortly to be issued on New Zealand by that Deaprtmont. GENERAL. Decided to request the P. and T. Deartment to provide a Post Office Directory at the local Post. Office for the use of local residents. Air Barron moved that the ITorowhenua Power Board be asked to explain its charges as compared with Manawatu Oroua Power Board charges.—Carried.
