ALL SAINT’S BEACH HOME.

OPENING OF NEW WING.

There was a crowded house to take part in the official opening of the new wing at the Beach Home on Saturday afternoon. There were many visitors from Palmerston North and the commercial travellers in force were present. Gifts of till descriptions occupied a large table. A number of cash donations were aso received.

Rev. Eat.court, in welcoming those assembled read an apology Mr. ,J. A. Nash, M.F. and Mrs. Nash; from the Rev. and Mrs \Y. Walton, who expected to be with them later in the afternoon. The vicar spoke of the very great help the Beach Home had proved to be. Not only were they able to take in additional juveniles but children who were ailing were sent there and soon regained their health. The home was now a credit to those who had been untiring in their efforts to properly establish it. Mr. E. R. B. ITolbeii was a tower of strength in this connection. In thanking al! those who had given assistance lie wished to mention Bench residents who had given Matron Murdoch every assistance possible. These were 3lr. and ALrs. Hartley, Mr. ('hirstol'i'ersen and Mr. Ttiroa: also the commercial travellers present lor their great help. The committee and Board appreciated the work of the Matron and -tali' of the Bench Home. Mr. M. E. Perreau. Mayor of U'.xlou. .-aid he was pleased to have the opportunity of being present. It was gratifying to see so many interested in such splendid work. Me wished tin* Home every success. Mr. J. Linklater, M.P., in congratulating the Home on tin* addin,,us. staled that the health of the children was of great importance. lie was pleased to see the Home so well equipped, lie meii,i,,Hell the proposed improvements to roads, etc., contemplated by the Harbour Board and was sure the I limit' would have continued

Mr. F. -i. Nathan. Mayor of Palmerston North, expressed his pleasure at being invited to be present. He was pleased to have the opportune v to express the appreciation ami pleasure of the Palmerston North people for the splendid work dune at Hu* Beach. Fie remarked ■ hut at the Rotary Club in Paimer--toil North they had a motto: ‘-Service before self.” This motto was carried out at the beach. He would take the earliest opportunity to put before others the benefits to all in carrying out this motto. Mr. E. R. B. Holben, of Palmerston North, thanked all those who bad so generously helped to build the home. TTe briefly narrated tin* history of the movement and the circumstances which ied up to the additions to the building. The speaker then went on to say that Mr P. Black, of Palmerston North had agreed to come at an early date to devise a scheme for beautifying the grounds around tbe Home. He hoped later to have an elderly ma.li established in a cottage at the beach so thill lie could look outside work. He made an appeal to those who could afford to give in the Home as there was not a more deserving cause they could give to. An anonymous donor handed in two £7) notes. Mrs. 1.. A. Aln-aluim, secretary of the All Sana's Home Ladies' i-onim.iliee, mentioned the many applications for admission to the Home from all over the district. They could only take thirty-six at Ralmerstmi North. The Beach Home w;ts a very great help especially for tin* smaller and ailing chiliii cii. She would like to see the Palmerston North Home enlarged ui the future. Lt was the intention of ihe committee to keep a number of beds in the Beach Home if possible for emergency inmates, such as when a mother was ill. At present there were 2() in lire Beach I lome. Air. Flint, in speaking on behalf of ill. commercial travellers, said they were always willing to do what they could and the committee could rely on the amount being doubled at their next effort. Ihe children sang "Sweet and Low" and "Elernai Father Strong to have,” accompanied by Matron Murdoch and their efforts were given hearty applause. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the staff and other helpers during which the commercial travellers enlivened the proceedings with their well-known delightful music. A dance was held in Lite Beach Hall m the evening as a wind-up of the opening ceremony, the proceeds being in aid of the Home.
