PALMERSTON SUPREME COURT.

At the Palmerston X. Supreme Court yesterday, the following prisoners were sentenced: —Thomas gins, alias John Patrick lliggin, and Ray Buckley, alias Molly Riley, for receiving money knowing it had beeij, stolen: the former was ordered to he detained in a certified inebriates' home for two years, and also to pav costs of 1 lie prosecu-

tion. The latter, whom the jury recommended to mercy, was admitted to probation on certain conditions.

Robert Uowden and Denholm Gillespie, theft from the person, were

ordered reformative detention, 1 fowdeii for one year, and Gillespie for two years. Detective Holmes said in evidence that Bowden was a spieler and had a had record. Counsel for (Idlespie said the latter belonged to a ver respectable family. and until tin* last few years had an unblemished record. Douglas Cordon Hollis. who pleaded guilty in ihe lower Court to theft of a mail bag and contents valued at £l3O, handed his Honour a written statement, in which lie promised to go straight after an- term of imprisonment iullicted. The Judge -aid he could not grant probation; t> the letters had been destroyed. The M’liieiiee was twelve months’ reformative detention. A girl aged

seventeen, whose name was suppressed, for opening postal packets, v.as admitted to probation.
