FOXTON UNITED SPORTS ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The annual general meeting of the above was held in the Town Hall supper-room last night. Present: Messrs M. E. Perrean (in the chair!. D. Christie, E. Parkin, D. Ogilvy, H. Hutchins, J. Thomson, F. Mason, R. Bryant, C. Pearson, Barron, Raikes, and the secretary (Mr F. Rimmer). An apology for absence was received from Mr S. Austin. MOTIONS OF SYMPATHY. A motion of sympathy was passed to the relatives of the late Mr W. Neylon,a. late member of the Association. A motion of sympathy was also passed to Mr W. F. Massey, in his illness, and a wish expressed for his speedy recovery to health. The following report was read and adopted:— Seventeen committee meetings have been held during the year, the attendance of members being very satisfactory. At the beginning of the year your Committee held a ball in aid of the funds of the Association, it being a financial success, together with a verv pleasant evening for those who attended the ball, and special thanks are offered by your Committee to the ladies who worked so hard with the catering and decorating. Your Committee also received notification that a racing permit had been granted to this association, and that in itself inspired your Committee with confidence to get to work on the coming sports meeting. It was then decided by your Committee to hold the meeting on the 18th February, 1925. As a professional meeting with amateur horse, woodchopping and sawing events combined, and your Committee drew up a programme accordingly. The total prize monev was £l3O. Your Committee also got in touch with the officers in command of the 17th Battery and arranged for a grand military display on the day of the sports meeting. Everything pointed towards a good meeting being held with the exception of the epidemic

throughout the country and on the closing day for nominations your * Committee deemed it necessary to hold a special meeting to consider the advisability of holding the sports meeting as already advertised and it was unanimous that owing to the restrictions of the Health Department it was decided to postpone the meeting. This step no doubt, caused a great deal of disappointment, but your Committee acted in the best interests of the Association. The nominations that had come to hand were very satisfactory, except in the professional events, and your Committee think that the restrictions before mentioned had some bearing on the matter. Your Committee have also arranged to hold a ball on May 7th, 1925. In conclusion, your Committee offer their thanks to any person who in any way assisted the Association.” The balance-sheet disclosed a credit balance of £5 6s 9d. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr J. Linklater, IIP.; president, Mr W. T. Jewell; vice-presidents, Messrs Perreau, Barber, Bryant, Chrystall and Mason; members of Committee, Messrs Parkin, H. Robinson, S. Barber, and Raikes. Treasurer, Mr E. Parkin. Secretary, Mr F. Rimmer; assistant seeretarv. Mr D. Ogilvy; auditor, Mr R. Rangihenea.

MOTOR. AND CYCLE EVENTS. Messrs Dawber and Henderson, of Pa liners ton North, were in attendance. Mr Dawber, member of the Manawatu Motor Cycle Club, strongly 8 urged the Association to include motor cycle and cycle events in next sports programme. Motor cycle events were a great attraction to any sports meeting and the local track at the racecourse was one of the best in the Dominion. Any assistance he and Mr Henderson could give the Association they were only too willing to give. There was no liability to the Association in ease of aceideni at such sports. June 3rd and Jjabour Day were both open dates, and good dates on which to hold sports. He could personally guarantee a good field. Mr Henderson also spoke in support of holding cycle sports. The visitors were accorded a hearty vote of thanks for their attendance. It was decided that it be a recommendation to the incoming committee that a motor cycle sports meeting be held at an early date.
