ALLEGED MURDER.
CHARGE AGAINST MOUAT,
ACCI'SKD COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. Christchurch, April 18. When the Mount case was resumed to-day Detective-Sergeant Connolly described flat search made of Mount’s house on February 28. Blankets in tiny front room contained two large stains and appeared to have been recently washed In the dinning room'he found a greasy and under the copper in the washhouse he found a uuantity of bones. Other bones were found substance at the back of the grate, under debris in the yard. Witness look possession of two saws, a tomahawk, knives and a bayonet (produced) and also a chisel. The police handed in a second -tatement by Mount made on the evening of his arrest. He stated that on returning home after visiting the Prosser's he told his wife in the bedroom that the cheque she gave to Mrs Wallow for rent would not lie passed. She asked where he had squandered all the money and he said it had gone in travelling. He said they would make a fresh start. They said “good night" and went to sleep. Next day she called him for breaklast. siie left to meet Mrs Hardy at ten, saying: “If 1 don’t return, bring my bag to the station and my old clothes." When going away she said: “I had a good mind to do away with myself." Previously she asked him to give her a hand with the blanket and counterpane. On Saturday he cleaned up the yard and burned some grass. He made a lire in the dinning-room to heat water for a bath. When the little girl Low arrived he had emptied the "■rate and put some disinfectant about the pan as he had started the lire with grass anil a few sticks and it had caused a stench in the house. Detective Bickerdyke said that when arrested Mouat said he had been wandering about the hills for a, week looking behind every bush and rock for his wife. He made a suggestion that she had committed suicide. After the evidence was concluded Mount rose while the charge was lead. “I have nothing to say, Your Worship,” he replied. He was committed for trial at the Supreme Court on May 12.
