ASSISTANCE TO BOROUGHS.
HIGHWAYS BOARD’S DECISION. Wellington, April .18. The Main Highways Board, after specially considering the question of assisting boroughs and counties has issued an official statement embodying the following decision regarding assistance to boroughs under Section 23: — ‘•Boroughs of (>OOO population and under shall contribute an amount computed at the rate per mile paid by the Board in respect of the maintenance and repair of the adjoining main highway of which the continuation passes through the borough, provided that the Borough has maintained its continuation to tlie satisfaction of the Board. “The length of the adjoining highway on which the contribution shall he based shall be three utiles from the boundary of the Borough. “In the event of the adjoining Main Highway being a Government road, the Board will not pay more than the amount which would have been payable had if been tin ordinary Main Highway. “'l’lie Board's decision as to what street or streets are a continuation of tin' Alain Highway .-hall be final.
