CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

A special meeting of the Foxton Chamber of Commerce was held on Thursday evening last, Air D. Christie presiding. There were present : Messrs Ad mo re, Barron, Mason, Winstanloy, Rimmer, Perreau, 11. Osborne, C. Simmons and R. MeMurray ( secretary). The President, before proceeding with the business, welcomed Mr D. Barron to the Chamber. The Secretary was instructed to communicate with the Postal Department on the matter of slot telephones. .Mi The matter of the Dairy Produce Control Bill was left over from last meeting in order to obtain further information. After discussion the following resolution was carried: — “That this Chamber considers the producers should have full control of marketing their own produce should they desire to do so.” The Secretary reported on his interview with the representative of the proposed Dairy Factory Coy. Several members commented on tin fact that the Harbour Board did not acknowledge coimuunicatioiis from the Chamber, and as far as could be ascertained, the important recommendation sent forward by the Chamber and endorsed by the Palmerston North Chamber in regard to improving the port, had not even received consideration. The President was appointed to wait on the Board Secretary and ascertain the facts. A suggested new railway timetable, in which the ai'terpoon train would leave Eoxtou earlier and make connection with the Auckland and New Plymouth' expresses, was unanimousiy approved, Correspondence from the Regisliar of Incorporated Societies was received and dealt with. A motion of sympathy with the Premier in his illness was carried. Members spoke on the importance of developing the port. It appeared as if some portions of the Board’s district did not fully realise the possibilities, importance and value to the district that the port could he made. The Secretary was instructed to write to the Eeilding and Levin Chambers, pointing out that the time had arrived for a forward move by the Harbour Board, and to request these Chambers to use their influence in getting men ol' progressive views to stand for election to the Harbour Board.
