The Easier rink tournament of the- Manawatu Bowling Centre was ( oinmienccd at Palmerston North on Good Friday, when nearly sixty rinks participated in play on the various town greens. The weather was threatening throughout the day!) but in intermittent rays of sunshine and overeast spells the first three rounds of the section play were disposed of. Foxton rink. consisting of WinstanJev, Walls, Thomson. Poore (s). had one win and two fosses in the first
da;, - (nay. The second day's play, on Sat array, was interrupted by heavy rain short I v after the third game had been commenced, and that round had to be abandoned. Of the two games played by Rome's rink, a win was registered in eaeh. Ideal weather conditions prevailed fur the third day (yesterday). The Foxton rink registered two wins and one loss in the three final games of section play. The inter-section, or semi-final play will commence this morning, twelve rinks having secured six games and over, thus entitling them to play to-day. Those obtaining six wins and over Tire as follows:—Wardrop 7 wins, 1 loss; Morris fi wins, 2 loss--1 s; Eekersley, (i wins, 2 losses; Duff 15 wins, 2 losses; Hewat 6 wins, 2 losses; Norrie Bell, fi wins, 2 losses; Steel, 7 wins, 1 loss; G. Fraser, <> wins, 2 losses; H. Eraser, 6 wins, 2 losses; Spencer, fi wins, 2 losses; Tantrum, 6 wins, 2 losses; Munro, fi wins, 2 losses; Reid, 7 wins, 1 loss. ’l’lie games in the semi-finals will be of 21 heads, and all the bowls are to be examined before play commences in each game. An enterprising cinema operator should pay a visit to the five bowling greens during the progress of the Manawatu Easter howling tournament, and advertise the reproduction of the characteristic antics of well-known players. He would make a hit (says the M.D. Times).
